Dr. J. C. Ayer & CompanyProducts & PicturesWith Their Approximate Dates of OriginOver the years J. C.
Ayer & Co. had many different Patent Medicine products
and like many companies they were always improving and
changing their formulas. With the passage of the 1906 Food and Drug Act
many formulas had to be changed once again. Below are pictured some of
Ayer's products
with the approximate dates of origin indicating the dates they were
first used.
It should be noted that the beginning production dates are educated guesses at best since there seem to be numerous conflicting dates associated with the initial production of some of these products. Surprisingly enough even the Ayer's Almanacs, that were published from 1853 through 1925, and Dr. James C. Ayer's own obituary do not necessarily have the same or correct dates. Many advertising pieces had yet different dates. As you will see below in some cases there is a wide range of beginning dates. These dates have been acquired from various sources and some are just our best guess. If you have conclusive evidence of the dating of any of these products please let us know. Thank you and enjoy the pictures.
