Jessie Fremont (1824 - 1922) was married to John C. Fremont (1813 - 1890) who was the third Military Governor of California and later served in the US Senate.

Fremont obtained a land grant from Mexico for nearly 40,000 acres that turned out to be the Mother Lode of the Gold Rush.

This book is about Jessie Fremont's trials and tribulations while married to Mr. Fremont and is a collection of her memories and letters. She was indeed a most outstanding American woman.
