Additional Information:
Meissen has been a name associated with the finest porcelain ever made
and continues to be such today.
This extremely rare First Quality set consists of eight (8) pieces. The
set consists of the tray, a cruet or carafe style liqueur jug and six
(6) small cups or tumblers for a total of eight pieces.
Each of the pieces represents one of the original marks or insignias
used by the Meissen Company with the Liqueur Bottle having a different
mark on both sides for a total of nine different marks ranging from
Meissen's early days in the early 1700s up to the mark that represents
pieces made between 1934 and 1972.
That last mark is the mark that is on the bottom of all eight pieces.
The tray or plate has the following incised marks; A1278 and 49\. It
also has a blue under glaze / or \ . The Carafe or Cruet has the
following incised marks; A12 plus something else that is illegible and
92\. There is also an incised mark that looks like a horseshoe possibly
indicating the year 1960. Other than the crossed swords, there are no
other blue under glaze marks on the carafe. The cups have only the
crossed swords mark and nothing else that is visible.
Our best guess as to the date of manufacture of this set is sometime in
the 1960s. The Blue markings on these pieces appear to be the same
cobalt blue that is used in the decoration of pieces in Meissen's Blue
Onion series.
After having searched for several months, we have been unable to locate
another set like this one anywhere on the Internet. We were able to
find another set in the same shape and size however, it was a different
pattern and color and did not have the insignias or Meissen marks with
dates. That is how we determined this is indeed a Liqueur Set and not a
Cider Set, Chocolate Set or something else.
This is a unique opportunity to own a very rare and unusual set, and to
find one in such phenomenal condition is even more rare.
This set will arrive at your home clean, ready to use, display or give
as a gift.
