adjustment screw turns
easily and the slide goes in and out without difficulty. The Mother of
Pearl is in perfect condition with only a slight, almost non-visible,
hairline on top right eyepiece.
These appear barely used, with minimal wear. The case is original and
in excellent condition. The
clasp snaps shut properly and the lining is intact. The trademark Bee

Additional Information:
Opera glasses were needed because the stage was generally a long
distance from some of the seats at a play or an opera.
Mother-of-Pearl, a common choice by women, was a popular decoration on
many French glasses back around the late 1800s and early 1900s.
These glasses made by Lemaire are marked with the traditional Bee and
say Made in France on the underside of the middle bar. (Please see a
copy of an early 1900 advertisement that we have included for reference
only, not included with the purchase.)
The top left lens says Lemaire FT (Probably short for FABT) and then
has the Bee emblem and below that says Paris. The right eye lens says
New England Optical Company. Apparently these were made by Lemaire for
the New England Opera Company. There are no serial numbers or other
markings on this pair of glasses.
