Additional Information:
This portable Communion set was used by a World War II Chaplain. It has
a rigid case that we believe may be wood and then covered. It measures
8 1/4" wide by 6" tall by 2 3/4" deep. It
has a tray that holds six glasses (not plastic), a bread box with lid,
wafer tray, and a bottle with a cork stopper.
The glasses each stand 1 1/4" tall. The tray that holds the glasses is
5 1/4" in diameter by 13/16" tall. The bread box is 1 3/4" in diameter
by 1 3/8" high. The wafer tray is 5 1/8" in diameter by 5/8" in height.
The bottle stands 3 1/4" tall, plus the stopper, by 1 1/2" in diameter.
All pieces except the glasses appear to be chrome and in excellent
condition. The glasses have no cracks or chips. The case has purple
velvet lining. The only mark on any of the pieces is on the latch of
the case and that mark is simply SB1215. There is a leather hand strap
that is still attached to the case however it has broken in two, but
there is no other damage noted.
This would make a great piece of World War II military memorabilia or a
fantastic addition to your religious collection.
Although the word "Communion" is not entirely a Christian-specific
term, communion is most closely tied to the Christian traditions.
Communion is most commonly defined as a Christian sacrament in which
consecrated bread and wine, symbolically the body and blood of Christ,
are consumed or received as memorials of Christ's death or as symbols
for the realization of a spiritual union between Christ and a church
member entitled to receive Communion.
Communion also referred to as Ordinance, can be done not only at church
but also at home, weddings, healing services, or at funerals or
memorial services if so desired.
Last rites or Extreme Unction is a sacrament in which a priest anoints
and prays for the recovery and/or salvation of a critically ill or
injured person.
