Richard Wagner was born May 22, 1813, in Leipzig, Germany and died
February 13, 1883 in Venice, Italy. He was a German composer,
conductor, theater director and essayist but primarily known for his
operas. Unlike most other opera composers, Wagner wrote both the music
and the words for every one of his works.
Wagner's compositions from his later years are his best known. Wagner
was considered a genius who pioneered many advances in musical
language. To him it was art! Wagner worked 25 years composing Der Ring
des Nibelungen, a massive four-part musical dramatization drawn from
the Germanic mythology of gods, giants, dwarfs and Rhinemaidens. Wagner
even built his own opera house to stage this great production. George
Bernard Shaw in his essay, The
Perfect Wagnerite, considered it a work
of genius and reviewed it in detail.
This is the perfect set for the music lover and in this exceptional
condition it would make the ideal gift.
