These books are about the life and times of Benito Juarez, 1806-1872, a Zapotec Indian, who became the leader of La Reforma, a movement for political, economic, and social reform. He was named President of Mexico in 1857, defeated Ferdinand Maximilian in 1867, and ruled Mexico until his death in 1872. His place in Mexican history is not unlike like that of Abraham Lincoln in American history. These two volumes have a combined 763 pages.
